As with all investing, your capital is at risk. The value of your investments can go down as well as up and you may get back less than you invest.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to invest with Octopus Money?
Around 0.60% a year, all in. That’s 0.40% for the platform, 0.10% for managing your portfolio and 0.08% to 0.10% for the funds you’re invested in.
On a £10,000 investment, that works out at about £5 a month.
Opening an account is free. So is topping up, switching funds, withdrawing money and closing your account, and there are no exit fees. We’ll confirm your exact cost before you invest, and fees come straight out of your investments, so there’s nothing to set up separately.
How much do I need to start investing?
£25. You can invest a one-off amount or set up a monthly payment, and opening an account is free.
Can anyone open an investment account?
You’ll need to be 18 or over, and a UK resident and taxpayer. We can’t open accounts for US citizens or dual US citizens.
Can I transfer an ISA or pensions I already have?
Yes. You can transfer a Stocks and Shares ISA you hold elsewhere, and you can bring old workplace and personal pensions together into one Personal Pension with us.
Transfers start from inside your account, so you’ll open your account first and then begin your transfer from there. ISA transfers should take around 4 weeks and Pension transfers 4 to 6 weeks, though many go through quicker. The timing depends on your old provider.
Before moving a pension, it’s worth checking what you’d be giving up. Some older pensions come with guarantees or protected benefits you’d lose by transferring, and some providers charge an exit fee. If your pension has safeguarded benefits, you may need regulated financial advice before you can transfer it.
Should I choose a Stocks and Shares ISA or a pension?
That depends on your own circumstances, and it’s your decision to make. Here’s how the two differ.
A pension gives you tax relief on what you pay in, so your contributions get topped up. Most people can pay in up to 100% of their earnings, with a maximum of £60,000 a year. You usually can’t take the money out until you’re 55, rising to 57 from April 2028.
A Stocks and Shares ISA doesn’t give you tax relief on the way in, but there’s no capital gains tax or income tax on your returns, and you can take your money out whenever you want. You can pay in up to £20,000 each tax year.
Plenty of people use both. If you’d like to talk it through, you can book a session with a financial coach, who can help you understand the differences, so you can decide for yourself. For a personal recommendation, you’d need regulated financial advice.
This is general information, not personal financial advice. Tax rules may change and depend on your circumstances. The £60,000 pension limit may be lower in some cases, and is currently £10,000 a year if you’ve started taking taxable pension income. The £20,000 ISA limit applies across all the ISAs you hold, with any provider.
Is your Stocks and Shares ISA flexible?
Yes. That means you can take money out and pay it back in during the same tax year without using up any more of your £20,000 allowance.
So if you paid in £20,000, took out £5,000 and then paid that £5,000 back before the end of the tax year, you’d still have used £20,000 of your allowance.
Remember the £20,000 limit applies across all the ISAs you hold, with any provider. We can only see what you have with us.
Can I speak to someone about my investments?
Yes, at no extra cost. Every account comes with 1-to-1 support from a financial coach. Book a session online and tell us what you’d like to cover. Sessions are held via video call and last 30 minutes. Once you’ve opened your account with us, you can book a session whenever you have a question.
